On their sophomore LP, Sleater-Kinney do what many a band try and fail to do: make an album that not only matches the greatness of their first release, but in some ways exceeds it. Opener "Call the Doctor" is a ferocious, grungy rocker that pulls no punches in subject matter or raucous instrumentation. The 1-2 punch of "Good Things" and "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" may be the trio's best songs; simple and effective indie punk that reaffirms their talents as songwriters and melody-makers. While I don't personally feel that the album surpasses their self-titled debut LP, there is a reason that the majority of S-K fans consider "Call The Doctor" to be the album that set them up for indie stardom.
